Resumen
Wireless connectivity is the principal issue because long-range and low-power devices are required for IoT applications. Actually, communications systems are based in low-power wide area network (LPWAN) protocols as LoRaWAN, Sigfox, and NB-IoT. Cusco represents an urban area, a LoRaWAN network architecture is being deployed. For these reasons, RAK831 Pilot and RAK811 WisNode are used as gateway and sensor node, respectively. The present work proposes a coverage study of an urban area for smart city applications in Cusco city, Perú. Two studies are developed, first study is based in a coverage model using Radio Mobile software and second study was developed based in an experimental coverage test for different distance from 100 m up to 5 km. Results show a high efficiency of packet received up to 3 km and a very close similarity between simulation and experimental results for received signal strength indicator (RSSI) values.
