Resumen
Introduction: the COVID-19 pandemic causes alarm and mental health problems, especially in the older adult population. Objective: to determine the relationship between socio-family conditions and depression in older adults in social isolation due to COVID-19 in a population of the Peruvian highlands. Material and methods: correlational cross-sectional study, the sample consisted of 116 older adults living in the district of Pilcomayo, the Yesavage scale version of 15 questions and the socio-family scale for the older adult were obtained to collect the data. Spearman’s Rho test was used for analysis. Results: 40.5% do not have depression, 53.5% have mild depression and 6,0% have established depression; regarding socio-family conditions, 11.9% of older adults have a good social situation, 45.8% have a social risk and 42.4% have a social problem. There is a direct and significant relationship between the variables depression and socio-family status (Rho = 0.320, p= 0.001). Conclusion: the greater the problems in the socio-family condition, the higher the level of depression in older adults.
