Abstract

Introduction: Autologous dental transplantation or dental autotransplantation is that surgical procedure that allows the restoration of an absent tooth by any other from the same patient. Objective: To analyze the available literature on the criteria to be considered for autologous dental transplantation as an alternative to biological rehabilitation. Materials and methods: A bibliography ic search was carried out in PubMed, Scopus, Scielo and Science Direct, using search equations composed of terms standardized in the MeSH. There view was assessed according to the Scale for the evaluation of narrative review articles, SANRA. Development: The main reason for auto transplantation is dental loss, which is why the dentist must take in to account multiple aspects to increase the success rate of the treatment. For this reason, the review addressed the following points: dental loss, indications, contraindications, criteria for the do nor tooth and the prognosis of dental auto transplantation. Conclusions: The literature analyzed shows that this treatment promises to displace some dental treat ments, since some authors patent encouraging results; however, more scientific evidence is required to consolidate and establish a surgical protocol that allows for increased success when performing dental auto transplantation.
