Abstract

Introduction: Introduction: Dermatoglyphs and diseases and/or syndromes may be related due to the genetic influence on the development of epidermal ridges and organs during the embryonic stage. The genetic information found in the genome, whether normal or not, is translated during the development of the dermal ridge and could be reflected in the dermatoglyphs. Objective: The study was to relate dental caries and dermatoglyph pattern in adolescents from the city of Ica. Materials and methods: This is a case-control analytical study. A total of 337 adolescents between 13 and 18 years old were included. For whom the dermatoglyphic pattern and the dental caries index were recor ded. To perform the statistical analysis, the Odds Ratio was used. Results: Bidelto and monodelto were obtained as a result, the odds ratio for monodelto is 0.09, that is, 91% less likely to have dental caries than bidelto, which is significant. Conclusion: it is concluded that subjects with bidelto dermatoglyphus have a higher risk of developing dental caries than individuals with adelto or monodelto dermatoglyph.
